Sophia

Sophia’s story is heartbreaking to say the least. The cruelty she suffered from humans is beyond despicable! They cut out her tongue and some of her face before tossing her in the landfill like trash. Sophia beat the odds and made it out of the landfill alive. She fought to stay alive and become healthy enough to fly.

When Sophia arrived at The Yamac House, we didn’t know what to expect. We quickly had to learn a proper way to feed her and ensure she stayed hydrated. We essentially had to teach her how to eat, how to drink and how to trust!

Due to her missing tongue, Sophia cannot regulate her body temperature. She cannot be in heat or cold for more than a few minutes. So potty breaks are quick and supervised.

Despite all of this, Sophia is just a big loveable goof! She doesn’t know her size and she thinks she is a lap dog. She has learned to live with 3 other Turks at The Yamac House. But at times her resource guarding kicks in and she is a force to reckon with.

Due to her ongoing medical needs and special care, Sophia has become a Sanctuary dog. It is very costly for her care and it takes 24/7 dedication to ensure she survives with the proper temperature structure, feeding schedules and monitoring her resource guarding.

She is far from what someone would deem “perfect”. But she is imperfectly perfect to all of us at RWB and we are committed to her for life!
